Why it works

Two colored gels from two sides (magenta from the left, electric blue from the right) are named like a lighting plan, so the face splits into two colors.
“Glossy red vinyl jacket” gives the gels something to reflect; the highlights on the vinyl carry both colors.
“Editorial pose with one hand on her collar” gives the hands a job, which is how to avoid awkward arms in a studio portrait.

Make it yours

Swap the colors: orange and teal is the classic movie-poster pair.
Change the vinyl jacket to a black turtleneck so the face carries all the color.
