Why it works

  • “The fabric billowing around her like smoke” gives the silk a behavior, and every seed has the gown spreading into wide red shapes.
  • “Sun rays piercing down from the surface” and “tiny bubbles rising” are the two cues that make water read as water.
  • Two colors only, crimson and deep blue, so the gown is the brightest thing in every frame.
